SEBI had banned trading of derivative contracts of commodities such as paddy, wheat, chana, mustard seeds, soya bean, crude palm oil, moong in Dec 2021 till Dec 2022, which was later extended to Dec 2023 and Dec 2024. This ban was further extended to 31 Jan 2025 and now it has been extended to 31 March 2025. If this ban is removed, it would increase the volume of derivatives trading at NCDEX, thus increasing revenue and its profit. This ban has been extended till 31st March, 2026.

NCDEX and Colombo stock exchange (CSE) have also signed a MoU to collaborate and explore development of derivatives and commodity products in Sri Lanka. NCDEX is also looking to develop commodity derivatives ecosystem in Iran, Nepal. Also, NCDEX is planning to launch equity and equity derivative segments opening up new growth opportunities and diversification beyond the agri segment, to invest 400 – 600 crores.
